This is Just to Say, by Gov. Mark Sanford

Before reading my use of imagist poetry to describe the current economic and political situation in South Carolina, start with this.

South Carolina: this is just to say

I have blocked
the money
that was in
the stimulus

and which
you were probably
saving
for education

Forgive me
it was valuable
so beneficial
and so critical

Hey kids, you too can write your own 'This is Just to Say' poem. All you have to do is think of something someone is really looking forward to/greatly values, and leave them a note saying you took it for yourself/destroyed it. For some pretty funny examples, listen to the second act of this episode of This American Life!
